Ten years of Alinghi

[Source: Alinghi] Alinghi will celebrate its ten year anniversary in September 2010 and while the Swiss team lost the America’s Cup on Valentine’s Day, it has two extraordinary wins to its count and remains proud of its achievements and what they represent.

Alinghi is the culmination of Ernesto Bertarelli's passion for sailing and since the team’s inception in 2000, its people have been its strength – the sailors, the designers and the shore crew and all those that back them up in the weather team, the media and marketing departments, administration and finance.

In 2003 Alinghi was the first European team to win the America’s Cup in its 158 year history and it went on to render the most successful Cup event of all time in 2007, including three years of lead-up pre-regattas.

The 33rd America’s Cup chapter is over but Alinghi will continue. In what shape or form is yet to be decided.

I hope they do it one last time and win it, it would be one of the all time great sport stories.

Bertarelli came to the Cup,he wanted to win it and he won it with a great management move...who were the best?the kiwis.. he bought them...and he won..
He defended it winning again...
chapeau...Now he lost it , being maybe a little presumptuous...but who is not in between all these tycoons? Ellison tried to win it since more than 10 years...he never made it...never won the LV...so...He won it with a shortcut...Sport value=0...Good pr, good lawyers, good tech aspects...
Is it fullfilling for a sailor to win the AC in such a way?Maybe for the owner yes, but I think that the value that a selection process would add to a Ac it's matchless. This Cup has been like a bike accelleration competition compared to a Valentino Rossi moto gp race.
So now that Mr. Ellison got the Cup ...it's time to give room to values...Sailing,Sport,Tight races and sportmanship...

Not buying this vid at all as it's out there that HB and his assistant have been fired by SNG. They had contracts until end of April to deal with the organizing of the race boats, race equipment and RC duties. This is really sad that someone who stands up for the sport is burned like this. EB is a fake and should be out of the sport for good.

I really hope EB leaves the cup alone, it's time for him to go away.

@ 10:10

You may or may never learn that, on certain sailing related websites, 85% of what is presented as fact is in fact not true.

The HB rumor was started by an Asshat who was (is) desperate for attention, not a knowledgeable reporter.

There are a lot of wonderful websites dedicated to the dissemination of sailboat racing news, VS included. I encourage you to read them all; the facts are out there...

So, you are telling us that the Committee boat incident in the second race didn't happen or all the previous deals to cheat never existed?

It is not the first time that Ernesto fire people for not doing his desires....

@ 6:22 PM

No, I am telling you that Harold Bennett is employed by ISAF, not EB. It is impossible for EB to fire him.

I am not an Ernesto apologist, but I am not an SA Kool-Aid drinker either. They have told more lies than EB and LE have in their lifetimes.

I like my information straight up.
