34th America's Cup Designer Meeting: Ask your questions

Greetings from Valencia, a city that apparently still hasn't entirely lost its importance in the America's Cup. As it was already announced in the inaugural 34th America's Cup presentation on May 6th in Rome, a series of designer meetings were scheduled in order to establish the design rule of the new boat.

The first, at least publicly known, of this series of meetings will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in Valencia. The meeting itself is, obviously, off limits to the press but there will be an opportunity to talk to, at least, some of the participants.

Valencia Sailing will, obviously, be there, so here's the opportunity to ask what you would like to know from the group that will shape the future of the world's premiere sailing competition. According to the schedule announced by Vincenzo Onorato in Rome, the rule will be released by the 30th September 2010.

I'm "obviously" disappointed by the secrecy. Would it be possible to get info on the alternative (mono and multi) outline proposals - and who was there on behalf of which teams? Thanks

Dear Pierre,
If you get to talk with any of the designers who attend this meeting, you could ask him if the new AC Class is going to be a monohull with canting keel and daggerboards (they could use the Farr 11 as an example of what could be an exciting class).

Can you get some idea on the criteria that will be used to evaluate the proposals?

What are the key stipulations/requirements that have driven the designs.

What type of Mast / Rigging are they proposing for either Multis or Mono. Are they talking wings / conventional rigs / Cost saving measures / etc?

Would be good if you could squeeze them on this! Yours - www.riggingnews.com

What concepts were the two design groups Bruce Nelson and Melvin & Morelli asked to bring for their presentations? Will they be coming back with more refinements on the ideas later?

General question to all participants.

Are you happy with the rate of progress for setting up the next cup?

are they designing the class to be more accessible to teams (i.e. less expensive) or for max performance?

Who was invited to attend or was it just an open invitation for anybody just turn up? What is the criteria that determined the attendees at the Designer meeting?

Is the design rule for the new Class going to be restrictive to the point where all designs are pushed into one corner of a box rule (like IACC v5) or are we going to see a wide variety of solutions within a loose set of parameters?

Is there a discussion about 2 different classes ? One monohull (60-70 ft ? ) and one small cat , like 35-40 ft ?
