First practice race for the TP52's in Cartagena

Note: As you must have noticed, updates have been really slow during the last two weeks. This is a combination of excellent holidays and awful internet connection. The Vodafone 3G service in Spain is a scam and barely works outside of the major urban centers. Valencia Sailing will be back in full action from Monday when we go to Cartagena for the penultimate event of the 2010 AUDI Medcup circuit.

[Source: AUDI Medcup] The waters off Cartagena offered near perfect sailing conditions for the TP52 Series fleet which spent most of the afternoon taking part in informal practice in preparation for the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy regatta which starts racing on Tuesday.

The typical thermal breeze built nicely out on the water to not only provide great training conditions, but some relief from the fierce daytime temperatures which have been prevailing around the sheltered dock area in the heart of the city. All 11 TP52’s have been on the water.

Last night’s carnival show on the Audi MedCup Public Village stage was a great success for the performers and the big crowd which turned out to enjoy the show. The pontoon area was open to the public yesterday to allow them to get an up close viewing of the race boats.

Tonight it is the turn of the improvised poetry and music festival, Trovalia to take to the stage and tomorrow while there will be further informal training for the TP52 and GP42 Series fleets on the water, so too young sailors from all over the local area will compete for the Optimist regional championships, with racing starting at 1200hrs. And in the evening there is also a gymnastics exhibition.

In our experience, Vodafone 3G is something to be snedsuffered rather than enjoyed.
