Excuse me Sir, do you have 100 million euros to spare?
According to this report from New Zealand's 3 News and Ben Ainslie's comment, taking part in the 34th America's Cup will come with a price tag of at least 100 million euros, if you are serious about beating BMW Oracle.
As for Emirates Team New Zealand, its managing director Grant Dalton can't guarantee whether they will be able to get all the money needed but he does state he's moving at an "incredible speed". Securing 100 million euros over the next 3 years will not be an easy task, according to the report, and it is "a lot of money for anyone", according to Ben Ainslie. As a result, this edition of the world's oldest sports trophy could be "a lot smaller" than before.

100 millions euros in 3 years... with the current financial situation, I would be really surprised to see more that 4 teams at the challengers series...
That is a lot of money ..come back Ernesto.
$ 100 millions but NZ $!!!
It's 50 millions euros not 100 millions....
Yes, OBVIOUSLY, the format is just wrong and made for the sole purpose of winning again. Still, you need really the 100M EUR, not 50M EUR if you are realistic about winning, as BOR is planning to spend min 148M USD (internal figures).
Thanks Mascalzone for your assistance, we expected you to be up to your responsibilities.
No way anyones will get any close to the right conditions for winning in today's economy.
It looks like Team Origin is hesitating too much. I would not, I would just ignore this Cup all at once.
wild speculations, so far.
Norby,
Give us some facts, all the sums I'm doing are pretty close to 100, even RC is saying 80 and I bet he's well North of that. Besides this poential sponsors have a really good benchmark against VOR the campaigns are the same length and VOR have substantiated numbers, tough sell even for the best. 3 sstong challengers (assuning ETNZ make it) and some no hopers who are either brilliant salesmen or are exceptionaly rich.
List of Teams for the next AC:
- Oracle (without BMW)
- ML fully assisted by Oracle
- TNZ in a sad appearance
- Team Origin not there finally, good for them.
- 1 French Team in last place trying to prove that multihulls are the there to stay and cars should still have yellow headlights on.
No more.
My Vision, as Bertarilli would say.
On the same day as it was announced that the 34th America's Cup would be in multihulls, Russell Coutts said that an estimated team budget would be between 40-100 million euros.
In the AC presentation from Russel for potential sponsors they speak already from 60mil up as starting point
Thanks Russel for your great ideas to finish with the Cup ! and increasing the $$$ in your pocket
Please Ernesto come back . You managed the best ever Cup ( 32nd ) till this guy took it with the court case
Please Russel ...go playing golf ...leave the organization of the Cup to Ernesto
You must admit... the AC 33 that Erensto was selling is looking pretty good now. I hope ernesto comes back and takes the cup.
RC has done Bertarelli a good person! 33Protocol was bad, but, un least, teams could finally design a boat. AC72 with (very expensive) wings (and Ac45) were a surprise for the fleet. We will see BPR, ML, a french (pacé) and maybe a couple of teams more running in SF. IS is wonderful?
norby....(wild speculations??)please shut up....or try with another sport maybe
wethog has gone quiet?
wethog has retired
i might shut up, but only when you identify yourself, instead of cowardly hiding behind internet anonimity.
I find it funny when the likes of wethog or norby accuse others of hiding behind anonymity. Is Norby your real name. Come on you are just as anonymous as the rest of us. The only difference is you gain attention. Whats yer real name Norby.
My real name is easy enough to find. But you need to work for it. ;)
As for the question in the title of this thread, its safe to say Dame Mills doesn'thave 100 million euro's to spare. lol
