Alinghi simulator at Valencia's Science Museum for winter
The Alinghi simulator, a replica of SUI64, is to be moored at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences) in Valencia for the winter. From Friday 17 November, it will be exhibited on the pond next to the IMAX cinema until February 07 when it will return to the Alinghi base for sponsors, suppliers and the public to use.
The 25m simulator was built at Décision SA boatyard, in Vevey, Swizterland and is a full size replica of the racing yacht that won the 31st America’s Cup. When in situ at the base, it can take up to 11 crew members, who race against a computer simulated challenger on a virtual race course; the screen displays the wind direction and speed, plus the optimal sailing angles, boat speed and elapsed time. It heels to 30 degrees and can tack within 45, emulating an upwind manoeuvre.
So, don't forget to drop by Alinghi's simulator if you happen to be visiting Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences.
