ITA-1, first IACC ever built, for sale

1992 America's Cup Yacht "IL Moro Di Venezia" ITA 1

This is the first boat built under the new IACC Rule for the 1992 Cup in San Diego. Built at Tencarna Italy in 1989 she is the strongest of any AC yacht built to date. Bullet proof rig and hull designed by German Frers to IMS maxi/volvo standards. Volvo 72hp Saildrive with feathering prop. Two 40' containers with tools, spares and dozens of brand new sails. She has been sailing this summer in San Francisco for casual day sails. Fully restored and in racing order. New 3DL Main and 3DL Blade make her easy to sail with a small crew. The most famous AC yacht built and the last of four that the owners had owned and restored. She is ready for a new owner and in turn key condition. Offered at a fraction of her restoration cost. Asking $375,000 USD.

This is not the first IACC (it´s the first italian boat), it´s the second because the French boat was christened one week before.

Its IACC Sail #1 which means its was the first sail number issued by the governing body. It also means it was built prior to France. I may not have sailed first but that doesnt have anything to do with the sail number.

France was sail #2. They issue numbers based on build timelines which meant Il Moro 1 was completed first, hence the sail #1. She has been sailing all summer on san Francisco Bay and looks to be in amazing shape. Scott

I raced on IL Moro in San Francisco and can say she is bullet proof. We raced her for six regattas (2003-2004) in big breeze and never broke anything besides a headboard on an older mainsail. Shredded plenty of kites but this thing could have been an IMS maxi in her day. To bad she is leaving the bay.

Sail number ITA-1 was given by the IACC officials to our first boat built at Tencara in Italy because we applied for it and started building the boat before the French.
You cannot have a IACC sail number without starting the construction.
Christening the boat first they may have, simply because our Leader decided to launch ITA-1 in style in a Venician ceremony in a specific date the 11 March 1990. The boat was ready weeks before and had already secretly been on the water for testing at our Marghera docks. Now, I ask, what does really count for a first?

Seems like a great piece for the current organizers to use to showcase the progression from hull 1 to now in Valencia. Maybe they could do like TNZ did and station her at the airport when you arrive. Certainly in europe and especially italy oneof teh greatest yachts to be built for the Cup. Wish I had the cash to buy her...
