Mascalzone Latino - Capitalia Team to add four sailors


Mascalzone Latino–Capitalia Team announced today the addition of four world class sailors to the team: Derek Clark, Nicola Sironi, Paolo Massarini, and Alberto Fantini.

Derek Clark, a name already well known in the sailing world, will be the team’s Technical Advisor. Among his many achievements are: project manager in the Volvo Extreme 40 catamarans; design coordinator for America’s Cup 2003 GBR Challenge; Tactician aboard Kookaburra, 1987 AC Defender; Victory, 1983.

Nicola Sironi comes on board as Design Coordinator. Nicola was a member of Azzurra’s design team in 1983 and 1987, working with the design group of Andrea Vallicelli. He was the chairman of the International Technical Committee of Official Racing Congress (ORC) for a decade, 1986-1996. Since 1997 Nicola has served as Chief Measurer for the ORC.

Paolo Massarini will be the team’s Operations Manager. Paolo was project manager of Brava Q8. He won the Admiral’s Cup in 1995, the historical first win by Italians. Paolo also has six World Champion Titles and three Italian champion titles.

America’s Cup veteran, Alberto Fantini has joined the crew as bowman. He was the bowman for Azzurra in 1987 and Il Moro di Venezia in 1992. He also has eight World championship titles and six European titles.
