Louis Vuitton Act 10 ends; BMW Oracle win, increasing lead over rest of challengers

BMW Oracle was crowned winner of Louis Vuitton Act 10 yesterday evening if there was still one match to race that had been abandoned due to lack of wind. As a result BMW Oracle and +39 faced each other this afternoon, with light wind conditions. As expected, BMW Oracle won the race and is now the only team with just one defeat in Act 10.

Even if it was a simple formality, BMW Oracle had no interest at all in skipping today's race. At the official end of Louis Vuitton Act 10, the American Challenger of Record had 10 points, which translate into 22 Louis Vuitton Ranking points. Since Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa had 9 points in Act 10, they were awarded 20 ranking points, slipping 2 points further behind BMW Oracle. More importantly, the Americans still hold the position that takes 4 bonus points, even if it is by a slim margin.

Further down the table, Desafío Español 2007 still is the 4th challenger and gets the three bonus points. Thanks to their very good performance in Louis Vuitton Act 10, Victory Challenge overtook +39 and are now fifth, but still get 2 bonus points, as do the Italians.

Mascalzone Latino - Capitalia Team traded places with Areva Challenge and now get 2 bonus points. The Italians are in fact the only team that improved their bonus position.

The rest of the teams at the bottom get each 1 bonus point, although the ever-improving Shosholoza could well move up with a good performance in fleet races.
