Germany I swims: New German America's Cup Yacht let into the water
Another big step in the young history of United Internet Team Germany is made: Germany I, the new yacht of the first German campaign in America's Cup, is ready to swim. At the shipyard of Knierim-Yachtbau in Kiel the new racing yacht was let into the water of Kiel Canal yesterday, after more than seven months of planning and building and one and a half months after the christening. "It really was a touching moment, but it also means the beginning of another time period of hard work", said Eberhard MaggTechnical Director of United Internet Team Germany

The first water contact of Germany I was used for first endurance and heel testings. After these short testings the brand new high-tech yacht was lifted out of the water again with the crane. "These first tests have been successful and make us sure that we have a good boat", said Michael ScheerenHead of United Internet Team Germany

Click for more info and a part of his sailing crew had also come to Kiel to witness this important moment. But for another highlight, the first sailing tests with the new boat, the team has to wait a little longer. "Unfortunately we had slight problems with some delivered parts. Due to this we had to postpone the first sailing tests", Scheeren explained.
