Santa Ana wins the first race of the Breitling Regatta

After a long delay the first race in the 12th Breitling Regata - Illes Balears started earlier this afternoon.

Twenty one TP52's, the largest Transpac fleet in the circuit to date were on the start line for the race in an 8knot southeasterly breeze, known locally as the 'embat'.

The left was the favoured end of the line and most the fleet were at this pin end for the starting gun. This affected the start of Caixa Galciia, Orlanda, Pinta y Bigamist, who were all over the line at the start.

Most of the fleet were on the left side of the race course with the exception of Balearia, C Quadrat Astro and ONO - a decision that paid at the finish of the regatta.

Good tactics on board Santa Ana staying on the lefthand side of the course and taking advantage of the more favourable conditions and leading the race till the finish.
Second place was hotly contested from second to fifth places. Mutua Madrilena, Platoon, Bambakou, Lexus, Anonimo and Bribon, fought for position on both the windward and leeward legs with the wind increasing from the left.

Winner of the first race was Stuart Robinson's Santa Ana with Mutua Madrilena in second and Platoon in third.
