German Sailing Grand Prix

Despite the fact that a large number of America's Cup sailors are either here in Palma racing in the Copa del Rey aboard one of the 20 TP52 boats or on holidays, there is still some amount of America's Cup action taking place. The German Sailing Grand Prix started this morning in Kiel, with BMW Oracle Racing, United Internet Team Germany and Shosholoza racing a number of match and fleet races in an exhibition regatta whose goal is to promote the America's Cup and the team sponsors in Germany.

In addition to being an exhibition regatta, all three teams are racing their old boats. BMW Oracle has brought USA-71, United Internet Team Germany is using GER-72 while Shosholoza is sailing aboard RSA-48. Still the first day of racing provided spectators with a very exciting show of high-level sailing, given the fact the race course was a few hundred meters from the shore.

Check the following video from Friday's races, with the presence of a cameraman aboard the boats, a rarity in the America's Cup.
