United Internet Team Germany trains with two boats

[Source: United Internet Team Germany] A new era has come for the United Internet Team Germany: Since the beginning of this week, the team is practicing with two yachts for the races of the 32nd America´s Cup in 2007. The new GER 89 is sailing in Valencia since August after being completed in Kiel, and now the training yacht GER 72 is back from her tour through Germany as well. While training on both yachts, the team wants to get the know-how to prepare the new Germany I for her races during the America´s Cup season 2007.

“GER 89 still behaves very well and we are very happy with her”, coach Lutz Patrunky reported after the first training with the two boats. It is still too early to give a comment on her efficiency: “GER 89 is brand new, she needs to get going.” That means that a lot of work is being carried out on all new parts of the yacht, in order to optimize her as best as possible. Like last week, when the team was sailing on GER 72, who has just come back to Valencia, while new GER 89 was being optimized on shore.

Training with two boats will alternate in the next couple of weeks with sailing on GER 72 and working on the new yacht. In order to keep in touch with the other opponents, there are more races for training scheduled, however initially still with GER 72. Victory Challenge and Mascalzone Latino Capitalia Team were last week´s opponents, other teams are to come. A very full schedule for the team, which will have to work until the Christmas holidays in a six-day-week. Yet, it is the America´s Cup which is the main focus.
