GP42 Roma dominates first day of Croatian Grand Prix

The first day of the Croatian Grand Prix saw the dominance of Italian team Roma. The first ever GP42 international event, taking place in Cres, Croatia, started on Thursday and three races took place. Although the GP42 class has 11 teams, just three of them are currently taking part in the Croatian regatta.

The three GP 42 racing in Cres are:

"Roma", designed by Farr and owned by Filippo Faruffini of Rome is skippered by Paolo Cian, who was the helmsman of "Shosholoza". The boat is the first GP42 built, and last year raced in many other races, without the possibility to have any class mate to compete with. Most of the crew comes from "Mascalzone Latino" and "+39".

"Sea Wonder 007", designed by Reichel/Pugh is owned by its builder, Vittorio Urbinati from Turin, who owns the yard where the "Mascalzone Latino"'s hulls were built. The crew is mostly composed by the "Mascalzone Latino" crew, from helmsman Flavio Favini, to most of the crew. The boat was finished in a rush in the last few days to be able to participate.

"AA HPB". designed by Botin&Carkeek and built by Croatian shipyard Murtic Yachts, launched in September 2006, skippered by Darko Prizmic with crew composed of young aspiring sailors who may not have so much big events exeperience but have a big wish to prove themselves among other America's Cup crews.

The news from Cres are scarce and the only information we have is the leaderboard. Roma won all three races, Seawonder 007 was second in all of them and finally AA HPB finished third three times.
