33rd America's Cup - Day 0

Good morning from sunny Valencia. This is obviously not one of the preview articles we have been publishing every morning for the last 3 months now. It is indeed the general preview of the 33rd America's Cup.

Today, Thursday, 5 July 2007, could also be considered the "official" date of birth of the 33rd America's Cup. At noon, Valencia time, America's Cup Management, Alinghi and Desafío Español, respectively event organizers, Defender and Challenger of Record, are holding a press conference announcing the Protocol of the 33rd America's Cup.

According to unconfirmed reports we have received, the city and Alinghi signed yesterday at 2pm the agreement to hold the 33rd America's Cup in Valencia in 2009. Apparently, the signature took place in an official building in the Port and could be announced today. Again, these are unconfirmed reports.

We will obviously let you know of all the details as soon as we have them.

To be Blunt...The 33rd defense must be made against challengers with affirmed national crews, boats and equipment...to continue with the present format dishonors the "dignity of the cup" and yacht racing in general. I would hope the Suisse can see this, thank you Bruce A. Harten asajuice5@hotmail.com Apple valley Minnesota usa
