Second leg of Vuelta España a Vela underway

The second leg of the Vuelta de España a Vela (Spain Sailing Tour) finally started today (Friday) morning at 9am Spanish time, albeit under very light winds that hovered around 5 knots. The 9 participating boats are heading east and will once again have to cross the strait of Gibraltar in order to reach the finish line in Malaga.

The second leg is 128 miles long and conditions at the strait of Gibraltar are expected to be much calmer today although the boats will have to face the strong currents. The third leg of the race (Malaga-Cartagena) has now been rescheduled to start on Sunday, 9 September at 11am. At 189 miles it will be the longest one of the tour.

The Vuelta de España a Vela (Spain Sailing Tour) is the annual regatta co-organized by RFEV, Vuelta España a Vela SL, Deporevents and CNEV in order for the latter to fulfill its obligations under the Deed of Gift. Read our complete report of the first leg here.
