Statement from Ernesto Bertarelli on the subject of the D35

[Source: Alinghi] Statement from Ernesto Bertarelli

Regarding the concerns raised by Mr Nicolas Gonet, owner of SUI-8, about his participation in the Décision 35 Class, I would like to say that I will not support any move to exclude his boat from the circuit, should this issue be raised at the next General Assembly.

As expressed in the previous Assembly, I must highlight that the Class was founded on Lake Geneva by sailors for friendly competition and in my opinion the fact that Gonet intends to introduce BMW Oracle Racing to the circuit goes against the original spirit of the Class. In addition, I believe it is questionable that a team in litigation with the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), one of the host clubs, competes in events organised by this club. However, for the better of the sport, I prefer to keep the fight on the water.

"However, for the better of the sport, I prefer to keep the fight on the water".

Perhaps he should start to take his own advice.

Ernesto had an event and challengers ready to go for 2009.
He wasn't the one who took it to the court.
If the Swiss team hadn't been taken to court we'd be watching 12 AC90's getting ready to go on the water.

totally agree, but just accepting a spanish challenge from a non-existent yacht club was a major mistake from Alinghi....also, from the Spanish...incredible that they couldn't agree and use the Valencia Yacht Club for that (not even 500 meters away from the CNEV)... urrgggg

we all know that was the mistake BOR pounced on in order to get themselves involved again after their desaster in the louis vuitton cup. still sad to watch this happen and not be able to do anything about it. the worst is the foolish oppinion that is put forward in forums such as SA. lets hope the better educated and the one with better manners succeeds in this scary battle - for the best of all of us.
