Alinghi to fight new legal action

[Source: Alinghi] (Valencia 6 March 2008) Statement from Lucien Masmejan, Alinghi legal counsel:

"We are disappointed to learn of this legal action by Emirates Team New Zealand, given their previous public acceptance and commitment to the competition.

These actions are totally without merit, wildly miss the target and will be defended rigorously. We share the sailing community’s frustration in the delays affecting the America’s Cup but Alinghi, as trustee, is duty bound to defend its position in the current legal action and to preserve the integrity of the America’s Cup.

We have repeatedly made it clear that Alinghi welcomes a swift court resolution and wants to get the action back on the water as soon as possible."

Bertarelli should have thought a little harder before writing that Protocol, and before delaying till 2011, and before refusing to negotiate.

It could all be on track, but he screwed it all up.

Everyone has to remember that Ernesto created a perverbial house of cards with his plans for AC33 and invited all teams into it with the promise of races in 2009. Many teams had issues with the protocol. When one card (Oracle buy-in of CNEV as a legitimate challenger) fell, the whole house became tippy! How many risks did Ernesto take with his plans and how many are paying off? We'll see if he's a visionary or something else.

well - at least the RC44 event is profitable... interesting to see a certain interest persued here. bring up a new event and sew the other to shreds. thats moneymaking on a large scale! poor bertarelli. i believe you solely have the wrong enemies....

Sorry but I can't agree that Dalton has small mans syndrome! If anyone has that it is Mr Bertarelli himself. Why in the first place did Bertarelli have to come up with this stupid proticol for the next cup one will never know - Maybe this was always a plan to put HIMSELF out there in the spotlight!! Just look at how the last cup finished - two seperate prese conferences - one for the WINNERS and one for the LOSERS both help at the same time in different locations. Talk about AROGRANT!!
