BMW Oracle's trimaran tests continue in San Diego

While the absolute majority of the world's top sailors is gathered in Auckland for the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, one is absent. He is currently across the Pacific, on the US west coast, putting more hours on the helm of a monster trimaran. We are obviously referring to James Spithill, BMW Oracle's main helmsman, currently steering the 90ft trimaran during its second phase of trials.

Our friend on the spot, Goli, sent us three interesting photos as well as his usual "unscientific" report when he followed the trimaran on Tuesday. According to him, the yacht sailed later than usual that day because there were some crew changes due to illnesses, although he didn't clarify on that issue.

Sailing took place under quite light conditions, 10 knots of wind maximum, and flat seas. While trying to keep pace with the yacht he assessed she was sailing at more than 25 knots.

One thing was for sure though, Alinghi's spy tender was nowhere to be seen.

All photos are courtesy of Goli and Darall of bayshots.com who provided both the tender and the camera.
