Port selection underway for 2011 Volvo Ocean Race

Here's an interesting bit of information that appeared in today's newsletter from the World Yacht Racing Forum. Starting April, the Volvo Ocean Race organization will commence the selection of ports for the next round-the-world race.

While the teams in the current Volvo Ocean Race are charging east to Cape Horn before heading north to the next stopover in Rio, back at race HQ, work will start at the end of the month on the port selection for the 2011 edition of the race. The Race will be looking for a similar routing for the next event with a likely return to Asia. The stopover ports in the current edition have seen record visitor numbers with close to 1 million visitors at the start in Alicante last October and in Cochin in India. Interested ports for the 2011 - 2012 race can contact Angus Buchanan at or tel +44 (0)207 299 4449 for more information.
