Société Nautique de Genève welcomes 33rd America's Cup Notice of Challenge from Italy

[Source: Alinghi] The Defender of the 33rd America's Cup, the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), today received an official Notice of Challenge from the Circolo di Vela Gargnano (CVG) with a certificate for a 90x90foot vessel as per the Golden Gate / BMW Oracle challenge for the 33rd America's Cup.

SNG welcomes the Italian entry; CVG was a challenger in the 32nd America's Cup and is world renowned for its prestigious Centomiglia regatta. It has now challenged with a multihull as per the Golden Gate challenge.

SNG and Alinghi have always supported a multi-challenger event and continue to do so. At a meeting on 23 April, the Swiss Defender asked the American Challenger of Record to open the challenger selection series. SNG continues to encourage a 33rd America's Cup with multiple teams from different nations; however the decision to accept the Italian challenge in a multihull lies with the Golden Gate Yacht Club and BMW Oracle Racing.

Who is "moving the goal posts" now? At a time when it would be good for at least one side in this bullshit to take the high road, its great to know the Defender is still enjoying little kid games.

...and they 'aint going to give a shit.

In order to make it multi-challenger, it depends on gaining 'mutual consent' from the CoR and Defender. Do you think that is really going to happen here?!?! PR posturing and more bullshit before they get their bums smacked by the court on thursday.
Time to out both of these complete clowns clowns as the spoilt little kids they are. Stop damaging the sport of sailing!!

SNG wants to see a CSS w/ 2 multi hull teams so why didn't they want a CSS w/ 20 mono hull teams?

Not to worry as CVG ain't going to happen as w/ the other SNG poodles.

Mr Rizzardi, before challenge SNG, should pay salary for last 2007 Cup.
+39 Crew is still waiting, the lawsuite is not over.
meanwhile they smile taking pictures with catamarans at lake of Garda... What a robbery...

SNG always wanted a multi challenger series, in fact they worked out a mutual protocol with 18 other teams. Its BOR who don't want multi challengers, because that would dilute their mathematical chances of possibly winning the AC

11:27 PM - What protocol are you talking about??? CNEV never existed as a qualified CoR hence anything to do w/ them acting as a sham CoR wasn't legal. Do you not understand what legal means or are you another SNGist who wants to pick & choose rules or laws to suit their desire to win. Btw that's called cheating so how do you justify that???

aw this comment post on scuttlebutt--
If you live up a mountain hundreds of miles from the sea and you have no extradition treaty with the USA you feel fairly invulnerable-right? The next defender will probably defend a replica.. . .
Those six or eight? of NZ best sailors who got bought out/sold out to EB; moneys not everything its made out to be.

Have the DOG match in feb 2010 in auckland.

Larry Ellison, what are you afraid of?
Let the Italians race!
... at least you'd be able to say that won some one on the water in the 33rd AC!!!
Alinghi knows your boat and the venue, and you know nothing after 2 years of litigation!
Face it: they have already won you because your maneuver to create the 33rd AC in 10 months is taking forever and time is on their side.
BOR won't have no chance on the water and this time you'll not be able to blame Chris Dickson but only yourself!

Where is the BOR guy i was arguing with. I want a straight answeron two questions.
1.Do BOR have the right to accept challengers at this stage if they wish.
2. If the answer is Yes. Please explain why they do not accept the Italian entry right now.

Just a straight answer would be good. I dont care about Alinghi could have done this or that. Its all in the past. I want to know if BOR are true to their word.

My grandmother has a Hobie cat. Could she take part on this 33rd AC?

Her Royal Yacht Club is 73 years old. It has 5 members and it organises a race every year in Meditarrean Sea. Could it be third Challenge for this?

Where is my money SIR RIZZARDI? You will sail with robots, any proffesional sailor want to sail for you

So how are all you other teams feeling now? Alinghi has forgotten about you now. That is unless you can prolong the match date for them. Alinghi PR department has their work cut out for them now.
If Alinghi really cared about you all, they would get on with the race so the multi challenger event could take place.
The whole event is a joke now. Well done!

What is Larry Ellison afraid of? He is afraid that he keeps loosing like he has ..... for years! He bought himself that RC (hand-me-down for 40 Mio), but still he keeps loosing. So, the only other choice is winning in the court room.

LE has a history of bullying like a yard dog. BOR wants a multi-challenger event? Thats absolutely laughable! LE is an egomaniac and self absorbed man without any consideration for the sport of sailing.

I don't know why I read these comments. So full of shit

After all they said about being in favour of a multi-challenger event BOR should readily accept the Italian challenger to show his bona fide.
Unless they are afraid of losing again in the water and favour only Court victories....

10:29 PM - why don't you ask SNG why they turned down 20 challengers vs the current situation? At least GGYC was willing & still are willing to have a traditional CSS w/ 20 mono hull challengers.

Seems your love of SNG is blind as you can't grasp which numbers are bigger, affected more sailors, Valencia & etc.

12:12am,
But why does it appear BOR are un willing to accept other challengers in Multi Hulls. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE!!!!

At 2:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Because the CVG challenge is as much of a sham as the CNEV was! These guys (who were behind +39) could only just about manage a 3 year shot at an IACC campaign and did not pay many people and suppliers. What chance of them actually making a DoG multihull challenge work?? Zero. And it is all still dependent on BOR's consent, just like Blue Arrow in 1988. PR posturing. Farce. Get it on and race in October 2009 if you are man enough. You have both had long enough to prepare!

if i were in larry shoes i'd say to the italians: "ok, be ready to race your 90ft multihull on the css 1 week before the court appointed date for the ac match, i.e., february 1st, 3rd and 5th." period.
