Tom Ehman: We believe this is a sad day for the America's Cup

[Source: BMW Oracle] We are very pleased that today’s Court decision gives
us clarity regarding the design rules that will govern AC33. It is now crystal clear that racing rules 49 through 54 will not apply.

However, without racing rules 49-54, SNG is breaking with the longstanding history and tradition in yacht racing that prohibited the use of non-manual power. For the first time in the Cup’s history, engines will be permitted to trim the sails, and computers can be used to control and steer the yachts. This, we believe, is a sad day for the America’s Cup.

While we are pleased with the design-rule certainty, we are disappointed that the Court has said that SNG can change the other racing rules at any time up to the start of the Match. We do not believe this is what the Deed says, nor what the donors intended, and are currently reviewing our options in this regard.

We are pleased that Justice Kornreich has ordered SNG to provide us the secret agreement SNG entered into with ISAF.

We look forward to the hearing on August 10th to clear the air on the CHR matter. We are confident we can demonstrate to the Court when it “would be practicable for [GGYC] to provide a CHR.”

Ehman is right on. Bertarelli is making a mockery of the America's Cup. Turning a green, quiet, beautiful human-powered game into a noisy, polluting mechanized mess.

Amazing, too, how BOR argues the issues while Alinghi makes personal attacks. As Ehman says, a sad day for the Cup.

It is a sad day for the America's Cup if you think it's a friendly race between nations.

Perhaps for AC 34, if this "innovation" stands for AC 33 - the "helmsmen" will stand on shore with remote controls. For that matter remote control via Geneva and San Francisco, like unmanned Predator drones. I can watch remote control AC boat races any summer Sunday at my local park's wading pond, however, I really expect more from the AC as a fan - what a sham, Alinghi.

Tom Ehman is a snake, arguing whichever side pays him more. The last time he was on the other side, but didn't complain because he "prevailed". This time he has to take his own medicine ..... and that doesn't taste so good now, does it? TE you are a double faced, greedy, manipulative operator. Its a sad day for the AC having people like TE involved.

So according to Tom, when the Court rules in BOR's favour it's a good day for the AC, but when it's Alinghi who it's doing things correctly, according to a DoG fight that only Tom wanted to have, then we're supposed to believe that it's a sad day for the AC?

Know what Tom? It really was a very sad day for the AC when you decided to leave 17 teams out of the AC and started this whole farce "We Are The AC Saviors" so your bad loser boss (5th in the 32nd AC!) could go right to a final without earning that right on the water.
A very sad day for the AC indeed.

Joe Cool ...... YOU NAILED IT!!!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. The worst day in AC history was when LE decided to start his ligigation cup, and in the process eliminated the rest of the free world ...... what an IDIOT!

Norbert - you are such a donkey's ass. The worst day in AC history was when EB decided to create CNEV. Go back & read the press & the comments from the other AC sailors after CNEV was found to be a SNG sham(e). Since then not much has changed off the water with EB. There will be small wars won on each side but the big war is yet to come.

typical american bs (bear shit ?) ass - fuck- war, but what about fair-play and friendly competition ?
The answer :
If we don't win on the water, or in the court, we'll send the navy ! but hey there is no sea in Switzerland, private joke !

Love you Yankees

When NYYC allows the use of boats violating the above rules in their own club regattas without mentioning the exception to the rules in the Notice of Race, why should SNG not do this?

just my 0,02$
