AUDI Medcup - Cartagena Trophy - Day 1: Racing abandoned

Unfortunately, even Ray Davies was overly optimistic when he told us earlier in the morning that despite the tough conditions we were expected to have, the Race Committee would finally be able to squeeze in a couple of races. Finally, no racing was possible today and the PRO was left with no option but to send the entire fleet back to port at 4:30 pm.

The threatening clouds that have been covering eastern Spain for more than 2 days now didn't allow for the breeze to settle and the shifts were too big for any meaningful racing to take place. A start for the TP52 series was attempted at around 4pm but was postponed one minute before the gun was fired. The GP42's didn't have a shot at any racing and their guests will have to wait for another practice race in a future event.

With the general weather not showing any signs of improvement in the immediate future, the schedule will become tougher for the TP52 fleet.

Unfortunately that was the only racing we saw today. The shifty conditions didn't allow the race to start. Cartagena, 15 September 2009. Photo copyright Pierre Orphanidis / Valencia Sailing
