Transatlantic Maxi Cup starts in 3 weeks

[Source: International Maxi Association] In three weeks time, on Monday Nov. 23rd, the starting signal for the Transatlantic Maxi Cup, will be fired in Tenerife (Canary Islands).

With the collaboration of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the regatta is organized by the International Maxi Association in conjunction with the Real Club Nautico de Tenerife, for the starting phase, and the St. Maarten Yacht Club, for the finishing phase expected in the first decade of December.

Among the competitors one of the most favored boats for line honors is “Beau Geste”, a new maxi boat at the lower section of the rating band, which had impressive performance in the Fastnet, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Middle Sea Race. Beau Geste is registered in Hong Kong and she is racing under the Chinese flag.

Another fast boat which will surely be towards the head is the Argentinian “Alexia”, by Alberto Roemmers. On board of Alexia will be the team who recently won the TP52 World Championship in Spain.

Other four countries will be represented.

An intensive social event schedule will take place before the departure, including a visit to see the breath-taking Island view from the Pico de Teide, the volcano symbol of Tenerife. The visit is organized by the Director of Turismo de Tenerife, in the framework of the hospitality offered by the local Authorities.

The starting signal will be given by Claus-Peter Offen, the President of the International Maxi Association.
