SNG tries to re-write the rules– again

[Source: BMW Oracle] BMW ORACLE Racing is employing a variety of environmentally-safe friction-reduction technologies. “Our hulls are more slippery and, therefore, move more efficiently through the water than ever before,” said design team member Manolo Ruiz de Elvira (ESP).

The only decision – out of fourteen – that Société Nautique de Genève has won in the New York Supreme Court was to have Racing Rules 49-54 deleted from America’s Cup racing for the first time ever. This not only permitted the yachts to use an engine to replace manual power, but skin friction reduction systems, previously banned, are now allowed.

“We are not going to say exactly what systems and technologies we are using on our trimaran, but I can assure you they make an already fast boat even faster,” Ruiz de Elvira said. “Our design team has found the ultimate solution – fast and green.

SNG’s blatant attempt to reverse the Court’s ruling permitting friction reduction systems, which the Swiss themselves fought for, is now in the hands of the International Jury at the request of GGYC.

What is the point here? Its rubbish. How stupid do they want to look? It was bad enough they let Russell go an get all personal while he was having 'the time of the month', and they keep rolling this rubbish out.

I love your site Pierre, I have been reading since you started. But why put this stuff up, maybe just a link of the site it first offended the internet with or something? Its rubbish. I feel sorry for people who agree with these personal and pointless whinge fests.

The incredible efficient wing, and now the friction-reduction system. This features and the measured speeds of the boat by reporters, it seems that BOR is clearly faster than Alinghi. Do you agree?

Can this AC get any more ridiculous!
The only way out of this for Alinghi to forefit the cup back to ETNZ.
Maybe then we can return to a fair multichallenger event in 2013 and may the best team win on the water.

It is a race of technology and if BMWOracle have found a way to reduce skin friction on their boat, good on them

good news is that we are not far away from getting all this mess behind us.

if Alinghi does indeed loose again in court and does not compete, it will be the ultimate blow for EB and team. it is difficult to be so badly advised legally. they have been behaving like schoolchildren without any hindsight and strategy...

That's what Alinghi asked for when they kicked out racing rules 49-53

Maybe they thought they were in a yacht race not a legal battle.
