Patrizio Bertelli: Luna Rossa will not enter the 34th America's Cup
The news that came from Italy on Monday evening is certainly a big loss for the sport of sailing and the America's Cup. Patrizio Bertelli, the owner of Luna Rossa, has decided not to take part in the 34th America's Cup.
This sad decision was first reported on various Italian online media on Monday evening but was also officially confirmed by the team's press officer this morning. The Louis Vuitton finalist of the 32nd America's Cup will not take part in the current edition of the world's oldest sailing trophy but the rest of its sailing program will continue as scheduled, in the AUDI Medcup circuit and the LV Trophy.

This is a real shame. Just leaves Teamorigin as a serious European contender unless Alinghi throw their hat in the ring.
Interesting to see that in an articel in the San Diaego Union Tribune Mr Tom Ehman has resurfaced bashing Alinghi. Sure sign BMWOR are trying to shed some heat.
??
When Mr. Bertelli decided not to take part to the 32AC, Coutts, Ehman and co attacked ACM and Alinghi as not even able to be able to keep a team such as LR. And now? What does it tell? Probably thatbtheir (non)project for the 34 smells bad. Or actually good for them as there will be little competition.
... and their will be more teams to withdraw. Not many syndicates will be interested to do an expensive 3-4 years global circuit for a Cup in 2013 or 14.
Alinghi? I doubt it. Look at their website www.alinghi.com, no team, no sign to move in an AC direction, no involvement in the actual challengers' activities. And Grant Simmer, the heart of the technical organisation, is now with Team Origin.
Mrs. Bertelli threatened to pull the purse strings tight after the last AC, maybe she is following through on her threat.
