Video: Russell Coutts talks to TVNZ's Martin Tasker

TVNZ's yachting correspondent Martin Tasker talks to Oracle skipper Russell Coutts about plans for the next America's Cup. I don't think there is any doubt that Coutts favors multihulls over monohulls as the choice of boat for the 34th America's Cup. Officially, the decision on the type of yacht will be made public before the end of September. Any bets?

Ellison and Coutts is about the worst thing ever happened to sailing

First they need a court to eliminate all competition to get into the Americas Cup.

They won the cup after spending the same amount of money that NASA uses to build a space-shuttle and now they are ruining the Cup.

Where did all the talk about dialog go? The only dialog going on is between Ellison and Coutts!

Of course BMW Oracle will pick a multihull. Have you ever seen them winning anything in monohulls?

Bertarelli built a base for the cup in Valencia. Something to build on, when developing the Cup to new audiences and now this idiots are about to spoil it all.

Well done guys!

Don't knock Oracle too much .. it's a big responsibility and they're not taking it lightly. Even though the event will more than likely be in multi hull rockets. The promotion of the America's Cup itself needs to find a fair wind to drive it in a straight line to the next cup in four years time ..I liked the idea of a young person America's cup with affordable craft. make it sleek, fast, sexy Formula One style on the water....GO GUYS

New audiences is exactly right.

Yes we are in for a brave new Multihulls AC future. A revolution. A new generation. A brave and exciting new world.

Go for it, RC!

I try not to be sceptical but with his record it's hard to believe a word he says.

The dude's a walking hidden agenda

Well you are obviously not an insider, otherwise you would know that a lot of talking actually takes place behind the scenes.

And by the way, EB is history ond no one really cares what he did and why...

To 7:59 PM

Russel Coutts record is (amongst many others):

ISAF world youth champion
four times match racing world champion
one olympic gold medal (finn)
four times winner of the AC (unbeaten so far!)

I think that says it all...
RC has a clear record of delivering and he will deliver in AC 34 just as well.

The funding came from the US? Is BMW a US company?

Coutts is undoubtly an unbelievable sailor.

That doesn't make of him a manager neither a honest person.

RC could be the best sailor , but will destroy the Sport ! Really bad that someone so close linked to the sport takes this bad attitudes
How many Cups where held in Multis versus Mono Hulls ? I think this tells all about the tradition and spirit of the Cup
