Year, new fast boat and fair Protocol rules will be unveiled September 13th

[Source: BMW Oracle] Organizers for the 34th America’s Cup plan on September 13 to host a press conference in Valencia to reveal three of the four cornerstones of the next competition:

- The objective for the 34th America’s Cup has been to create the fairest-ever competition, sustainable to teams and their partners with transformed racing to attract the widest possible audience for an event planned for either 2013 or 2014.

A new, dynamic and exciting class of boat will be revealed. The year of the 34th America’s Cup Match will also be confirmed.

Negotiations over the host city venue – the fourth cornerstone – continue, but organizers are confident of making an announcement ahead of the December 31 objective.

Do you know the protocol, year and class boat yet?
I mean you should wait to know it.
I hope that for once the protocol is fair and well formalized.
If you know the venue, you tell us, please

I like how the press release reads "Year, new fast boat and fair Protocol rules will be unveiled September 13th".

Nothing about fair boats.

I'm over the AC, like the dude above said, bring on the Volvo

The Protocol is now finalized and will be formally signed by the defending Golden Gate Yacht Club and the Challenger of Record, Club Nautico di Roma...Will it be signed by the so called Vincenzo Onorato who only last week fired all his crew and came out and said the founds for his team will come from Larry... who is the lap dog here.... Roll on Volvo

Agree - bring on the Volvo!! So over the 'man bitching' the AC has become.

CNEV was a sham yacht club ...???

The Mascalzone-Oracle duo is doing even worst than CNEV-Alinghi.
CNEV signed the white paper to have the venue at Valencia, Onorato sign the white paper to have his game paid by Larry!!!
Is the catamaran a fair boat, yes for Oracle !!!!

disgusting

It's about time the journalists who were so quick to join the BMWOR witch hunt in 2007 got out their old note books and compared what was said then and what is being done now. It would make very interesting reading for everyone with the possible exception of BMWOR.

Has nobody got the balls to expose these guys for what they are.

I am surprised by the negativitey shown here. None of you know exactly what the protocol or rule will say so it's a bit rich to say that it is a cop out.
The only Cat sailing that BMWO has done is in VX40's so how that gives them a huge advantage I don't know. If it goes to 72 foot cats then that will be a completely different beast to the 90 foot waterline Tri.
As far as wings go, the technology is not new, in fact the BMWO wing was very crude in many respects. The thing that made it amazing was the scale.
If you think that VOR is the premier sailing event then you need to take a long hard look at that event. They are struggling to get 5 boats on the start line.
Long live the AC and if the coming changes produce a more spectactular, commercially accessible event then then BMWO, GGYC and ACRM have met their goals.

Sorry, but in fact BOR90 was a catamaran and thats the reason why BMWORACLE has a huge advantage. The main hull was only for maesurement.

BTW the only team with catamaranexperience is, besides BMW, Alinghi...................

One thing is cristal clear:
Russells Event will be the most expensive ever and he will make the most out of it for himself...

The way things are going the AC may struggle to get 4 entries.

Larry wants to have the best Cup ever.... But if he follows Russel, Bruno and the other snobs he will end up allone racing against his "b" Team Mascalozone

Btw. Where is our friend Tom?

This is all a big big joke!
5 Mio entrancefee (50.000 at the 32)
Development advantage of more than 2 years and X millions of $ (was there not a discussion for the 33 that Alinghi might have a 3 mounth advantage)
COR that is 100% funded by BOR (where is here the shame)
Venue anouncement end of december - but callenger registration ends in January - super easy to find sponsors
and so on - if tehy want to race allone just state it and have fun

@1:57 PM

AC33 only had two teams involved and it was a fun event to follow. Then again BMWO won so I enjoyed it.

As for the negativity, its the usual trolls on this site. They were out and about bashing BMWO leading up to AC33 and they are picking up where they left off after getting over the shock that their Man Crush EB's got his ass kicked.

And I like the VOR, after the AC its my 2nd favorite sailing event, but to say the VOR is on the same level as the AC is pretty fucking funny. I would change my tune though if the VOR teams sailed around the world non-stop, but that aint gonna happen.

AC33 was a fun event to follow? Where were you sitting? It was rubbish for a few years, and then two boats who have since disappeared off the face of the earth going in straight lines. Yawn.

And its less about the usual trolls and more about people who were right all along last time and now still are.

The new Protocol fairer? It will be the same level of bias for Oracle, just worded better so people fall for it longer.

Fair boats???

Not many of you sail as boats are part of any competitive sailing race. If you can't make a boat that fits in the box and is competitive don't show up if you are a whiner. If you sail for the sport, show up and have a few beers/ales.

AC 33rd was a great event for Cup followers now it's back to the CSS part of the AC.

Too many Alinghi types here still crying in their cold Swiss chocolate and stirring the pot with their fingers.

10:54 you may have accidently inverted the accronym ACRM... Let me fix it for you. It's actually ARCM - ALL RUSSELL COUTTS MONEY!
He's the one who will come away from all this laughing. I wonder where he'll build his next beach house or chalet. Anybody else involved will be stuck riding on the travelling circus train. They'll never see their families. I'm betting the reason they moved up the date for the press conference is b/c their design is done and they really want to get started on the build. And don't get me started on Vincenzo... poodle/sham yacht club of THE highest order!!! Before long EVERYONE will be begging Ernesto to throw his hat back into the ring!!!

@9:51 PM

The court bullshit was annoying to follow, but watching EB's Alinghi get penalties in both races (both self inflicted) and then watch USA-17 sail off into the sunset was great to follow. You didn't like it? I can't imagine why.

And people that were right all along? A lot of the people that were boasting that EB's and his magic lake-cat on steriods were gonna smoke BMWO leading up to AC33 are the same people that are making claims on a protocol and boat design for AC34 that they have not seen yet. And I get accussed of claiming to be the "authority" on stuff? Right...

«Sorry, but in fact BOR90 was a catamaran and thats the reason why BMWORACLE has a huge advantage. The main hull was only for maesurement.

WRONG:
BOR 34thAC IS THE ONLY team with cat experience. BOR has hired a bunch of ex-Alinghi designers, engineers and sailor. They have gather together the experience of both teams. The game will never be fair and we will be all gone before someone takes the cup back from America, probably in 132years...

At least wethog stands for his comments with his name and is not cowardly posting bullshit as anonymous. Besides, he seems to be one of the few participants in this thread that have soemthing to say (and keep saying it in a nice and polite way - despite all unfair attacks).
Well, what can be expected from stupid EUROTRASH people like you...

You never make any points dognob, you're just a troll. Go back to SA and save your trolling for there.
Everyone else ignore the douchebag.

@11:55

Do you even know what a forum troll is? Look to your partner in crime that posted at 11:35. Classic troll action. Short and humorless post where the troll author thinks he has pulled of the best and greatest insult in the history of the web, but he is the only one to think that.

And when did dognob post on here? Now he is a great SA troll. He's got skillz.
