TEAMORIGIN respond to AC34 information released today

[Source: TEAMORIGIN] TEAMORIGIN issued the following statement following the publication of the 34thAmerica’s Cup Protocol and the information presented at the America’s Cup Press Conference in Valencia.

Grant Simmer, CEO of TEAMORIGIN, gave his comments today:
“The whole America’s Cup community has been waiting a long time to get solid information on the 34th America’s Cup, and so today is a positive day for TEAMORIGIN and all prospective teams. The Protocol and the announcements give us many important pieces of information, much of it we heard for the first time today. Furthermore the Defender commented at the press conference, that we will be receiving more important information over the coming months.”

“2013 is the year of the next Cup. We now know that for sure. There were a lot of new elements published today and a lot of changes have been made to the first Protocol draft published in June. For instance designers are able to work for more than one team, which is an interesting and significant change from past Cups. We will now review the new Protocol document and associated information to see if this matches our expectations, and we look forward to meeting the Defender with the other prospective challengers, to discuss the many detailed questions that today’s Protocol has inevitably brought to light.”

Sir Keith Mills, TEAMORIGIN Team Principal, added his thoughts :
“Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts promised Challengers:
- A level playing field – giving teams a fair chance of winning
- Neutral event management – to ensure the event was not controlled by one team
- Cost containment – to prevent an arms race

We now need to study the new Protocol document and determine whether it matches these promises. TEAMORIGIN will only challenge if the 34th America’s Cup is fair and neutrally managed. “

RC is smart, he sure has leveled the playing field by destroying the two strongest challengers, ETNZ and TEAMORIGIN in one go whilst at the same time consoidating the Deffenders position.
This is without doubt a case of my ball so play on my terms. Well maybe it's time the serious players in this game let them get on with it and find another ball.

Come on Sir Keith amd Dalts show the others the way you have nothing to gain by staying in this game, for sure they'll never let you win it.

By setting a 2013 date this means Iain Percy and Ben Ainslie will have to choose between the Cup or doing a solid Olympic Campaign...Great strategy Russell!!

Does anybody want to sell me a IACC boat for less than US$ 100.00?
I think that is the biggest price you can find for those boats now.

Personally, I would prefer a boat with more things to go wrong, (big spinnakers that sometimes don't go up, or don't go down) and that would give more importance on the ability of the crew to handle the boat. But I can understand the choice. It is appealing to go faster and, or course, they have to use all the knowledge they acquired during the 33rd. I agree that the ones with a lot more to lose are ETNZ and TEAM ORIGIN, specially the first. But are both great teams and I'm sure they will be able to turn this around and put a strong effort, with a real possibility to win.

Are you guys stupid!!!!
Do you really think ETNZ, Origin and others have been sitting still "hoping" for mono-hull?
At least two of these three teams are all ready designing and building wing-sails. At least 1 team all ready sails multi hulls.

Ben and Percy are done sailing Olympics. That is for amateurs and other that do not want to compete in AC/VOR. The only reason for them to sail Olympics had to be for the sponsors.

They all will have a fair change to win. But there will be two teams in the finals of the defender cup. That will be Artemis and ETNZ.

funny enough, Alinghi is in pole position to be the best challenger since the AC72 shares a lot with their cat. The defender basically levelled the playing field for everybody but Alinghi. Weird

Simmer says many things were hear for the first time today. so much for the "sharing" with the challengers Coutts mentioned.
Time to speak up! Coutts is a liar and a cheater!

BOR has gathered together the brains that created both Alinghi and BOR.
The AC72 could have been called AL6, thanks to DKramers having joined BOR.
Who would be so stupid to challenge the strength of Alinghi and BOR together? VOnorato would, because he sits when Larry says "sit", he rolls when Larry says "roll", he shakes his tail when Larry says "shake your tail", he signs when Larry says "sign".
But apart from VOnorato who else on earth would be stupid enough to enter an EXPENSIVE race that you can not win?
If this attitude had come from EBertarelli the whole sailing ommunity would crucify him. But as it comes from this guys it's just "fine"?
Let them play with VOnorato for the next 132 years! Maybe by then there will be another kind of Alan Bond/Ben Lexcen.

Who cares about team origin? They are not good enough in monohulls (see the last 2 years results),
Do you think they will be better in a multi??? Let those guys do the olimpics, they are very good in those classes, but dont make them lose time in the AC, they are simply not good enough.

If you think that Ben and Iain are done with the Olympics - then you are stupid! They get much more enjoyment from that than an big boat events...just ask them yourself!
