TEAMORIGIN DECIDES AGAINST AMERICA’S CUP CHALLENGE
[Source: Team Origin] TEAMORIGIN, the yacht racing team established by Sir Keith Mills, and skippered by triple Olympic Gold Medallist, Ben Ainslie, announced today that it will not be challenging for the next America’s Cup scheduled for 2013.
The team, which was set up in 2007, has been waiting for three years to enter the America’s Cup, which was delayed when the US team, BMW ORACLE Racing, took the Swiss team, Alinghi, through the US courts. The US team won the court battle and won the 33rd America’s Cup Match to become the America’s Cup Defender in February this year. The new US Defender has recently announced the format for the next America’s Cup, including the rules and type of boat to be raced. TEAMORIGIN has also been briefed by the Defender and has made numerous comments on both the regatta rules and class rule.
Having now had a chance to analyse the race format, the proposed fixed wing catamaran boat, the timetable, rules and costs, Sir Keith has concluded that the 34th America’s Cup is neither viable commercially, nor an attractive sporting contest for TEAMORIGIN. Therefore he has decided that the team will not submit a challenge when the challenge period opens on 1 November.
Sir Keith Mills, TEAMORIGIN Team Principal, “After three years of waiting in the wings to enter a British team in the America’s Cup I am bitterly disappointed that we will not be competing. However, the format and timetable decided by the Defender, BMW/Oracle, is simply not viable for TEAMORIGIN. We have assembled an outstanding team, led by Grant Simmer and Ben Ainslie, and I am personally very sorry that they won’t now get the chance to race for a British team in the next America’s Cup”.
Over the next couple of months TEAMORIGIN will be considering whether it will compete in other yachting events over the next few years.

Big shame, though entirely understandable. I'm sure, now that Keith Mills has laid his cards upon the table, that TO won't be the only team to decline the invitation to compete in the 34th America's Cup.
BMW Oracle Racing are in danger of ruining the America's Cup altogether. The dignity shown by Alingi was the only good thing to come out of the 33rd debacle.
The other teams don't want to come out to play BOR. They will find another game, where the rules are fair and everyone stands a chance of winning.

Come on, what are you thinking. The PR is gonna be so bad from now on. Do you really want to finish your career this way. Such a shame that one guy can be able and allowed to create so much negative and poor feeling. You can make this great, just have the integrity and balls to make it so.

To the Anonymous 10:09 PM, YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THAT ALEPH SAILING TEAM (Bertrand Pacé & Company) WILL ALSO BE TAKING PART IN THE NEXT AMERICA`S CUP.
HONESTLY, BESIDES BMW ORACLE Racing, MASCALZONE LATINO AND ALEPH SAILING TEAM, I DON`T SEE WHO ELSE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THE 34TH AMERICA`S CUP.
IF SOMEONE HAS ANY IDEA OF WHO ELSE WILL CHALLENGE BMW ORACLE, I´LL BE GLAD TO HEAR IT.

It would be good to see them put an entry into the Volvo.
Shame - but totally understandable. Will be interesting to see who does actually front up and enter.
Coutts and Oracle and Ellison and Ehman are now being unmasked and everybody starts to miss the good old times with Alinghi as Defender (at least Bertarelli had a level play field for AC32, he then consulted with the challengers for the AC90 rule in 2007 and 18 teams where ready to race AC33 before being eliminated by Ellison's legal strategy)

It used to be said that Ernesto had achieved the unthinkable: making Larry Ellison appear to be an honorable man.
Now Russell has returned the favor by making Ernesto look comparitively honest and ethical.

Mills never did have enough money. It was all mouth. This has nothing to do with Russell, or with Bertarelli. It is quite obviously all about Mills mouth, Mills money, and Mills!

The AC tradition has been allways clear ....is in monohulls . The stupid wing is a disaster also ....RC do you think you are doing something good for the sport that has given you so much ? I don't think so . Unfortunately all this story doesn't speak well about Mr RC
Larry , please please add your input to your Team ..they are lost ....please save the AC . you have still the time to bring this back to a fair , normal and excellent competition ..Mono Hull - Soft Sails - Fair protocol - slightly lower budget ...so at the end the AC90 or AC33 from Ernesto looked GREAT !!!!!!!!!!

Well done TO. Why enter a race that the Defender has made up so that nobody can beat them?
And for all of you guys begging RC to change his mind: The only thing that RC mind is set is on €€€.
And he is no differnt then before. His mind was set on €€€ from the moment he signed with Alinghi in 2000. The only difference is that then EB DID NOT let RC cheat to beat TNZ. RC strategy was to weaken TNZ by attacking them on legal and accounting stuff. EB's STRONG LEADERSHIP forced RC away from that evil plan and Russ had to win with fair sailing.
Everyone knows the story from there on: EB fired RC and for the good of the AC was able to keep RC away during one cicle.
Then RC joined together with TE distorted mind and that was the end of any hope.
Conclusions:
1. Forget about asking RC for a fair game. He only wants money.
2. You could ask LE to do something for the good of the sport: That would be to fire RC and somehow lock him away from the AC. But why would LE do it. He would need to be HONEST AND HAVE BIG BALLS like EB to do it. And LE is happy with things this way as this assures keeping the cup for eternity.
