San Francisco Giants, America’s Cup tussle over piers

[Source: San Francisco Chronicle] Lt. Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom, who wants a deal to bring the America’s Cup regatta to San Francisco in place before he leaves his job as mayor in January, plans to introduce a binding agreement between the city and race organizers at the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

But this deal isn’t going to please the Giants.

The world-famous yachting race needs space and piers to build boats and show them off to the public. The first proposal was to center the operations at Piers 48-50, which need costly infrastructure work. In exchange for paying to shore up the piers, the city would give up the long-term leasing rights for the site.

The Giants complained that might interfere with their plans to build in the area, a development that could include a new basketball arena or concert hall.

Great article ! Very very good !!
It says what most of us think about this crap

Great that they won the DOF with the Cats , but we all trusted RC would wring it back to normal for the goodness of the sailing sport , and not for the goodness of his pocket

S.F. isn't going to happen anyway... RC isn't happy about losing any of his sweet paycheck to the U.S. income tax. I'm sure he has a very sweet tax deal (and bonus for getting it there) in the works with the Romans as we speak...

and you lost your grip...

If ETNZ should wish to change the AC they better enter AND win it. If not, someone else will call the shots.
Hey man, this ain't a pony farm this is the AMERICAS CUP! Wake up!

Mr. Ellison is paying RC's paycheck and hence he is the one who is calling the shots (sorry, but thats how it works in the US...). It is really naive to assume that Mr. Ellison would give a dime how much taxes RC would have to pay...

YES WE KNOW IS THE AC ...JAAJA
BUT SAME WAY YOU DON'T LIKE WHEN POLITICIANS DO A WRONG JOB , THE MAJORITY OF THE SAILING WORLD THINK THIS IS GOING TO RUIN THE CUP ...PLUS YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THE CUP HAS BEEN ( APART FROM 2 DOF MATCHES ) ALWAYS A MATCH RACE IN MONO HULLS ..SO UNFORTUNATELY BUDDY THIS IS A CRAP AC

TWO minor points that I wish to add:
1. The cup has always been subject to change and implemented the lates technological developments. Otherwise the AC still would be sailed in wooden boats.
2. Who gives you the legitimation to speak "in the name of the majority of the sailing world"? With such a statement you only discredit you own comments since it is obvious that don't have such a legitimation

I think 67% is a nice number in favor of Mono's

This survey is meaningless since it is based on the responses of 200 persons. That number hardly represents the majority of the world, doesnt't it???

quod erat demonstrandum...
