Meanwhile in Valencia... Alinghi and BMW Oracle prepare for the 33rd America's Cup

The decision of the Appellate Division in New York has yet to be made public but it seems both America's Cup teams, Alinghi and BMW Oracle, take it for granted the 33rd America's Cup match will take place in Valencia. Otherwise, one cannot justify all the activity going on in their respective team bases (and beyond) in Port America's Cup, even under the current adverse weather conditions and heavy rains that have been hitting Valencia and the rest of Spain.

During our, unfortunately short, visit on Monday morning and despite the incessant downpour, the Defender had its shore crew busy. As it can be easily seen in the photos, the fence that separates the Alinghi and +39 Challenge base has been removed and the Swiss are now storing there a number of ribs and containers. To the east of the base, it appears that some sort of tent will be shortly erected in the space that was reclaimed from the sea for the Formula 1 race track.

In addition to its own base, Alinghi will apparently use the +39 Challenge base to the west as well as the space created for the F1 track to the east. Valencia, 14 December 2009. Photo copyright Pierre Orphanidis / Valencia Sailing

«it seems both America's Cup teams, Alinghi and BMW Oracle, take it for granted?»

To me it only seems that both teams have to antecipate and be prepared for Valencia in case the court says so. It would be stupid to wait for the decision and then realise it's to late to prepare. It seems that Alinghi will have a setup in VLC and in RAK. What about BOR? If the court says RAK in Feb? Will they have time to setup in RAK?...

6:06 PM if the court says RAK & BOR is in VLC they will give they time if needed as that was the orginially agreed to place & in the court order whereas RAK never was.

As for A5 they need to be in 2 places at the same time as RAK is a risk & they could be found in contempt if they aren't in VLC on time.

4:43 PM I do not want to travel to RAK due to several reasons of what goes on in the UAE. I've worked & lived in the ME.

Also with the political issues with the USA it makes for not a great place due to Iran being next door.

Is ME next door to RAK? Do you know anything about the VAE and have you been there? Do you know the people in RAK? Did you talk to them?...

To the first poster, RAK would be "brighter & warmer"???? My ass.

Look at this headline from The National: "At least six people were killed and many more were injured on the country’s waterlogged roads yesterday, as the UAE was hit by near-record rainfall."

Don't forget that according to the UN classification system, RAK is a third-world country. Read for your self:

6:52 PM how much of the ME functions under democracy? The UAE? RAK? You think a NY Trust that controls the AC is going there when it's governed by NY State Law & Trust Law? There are several levels of law that govern the Trust even it a site may be Deed legal.

Have you talked to the Expats that are in debt & can't leave the country? Have you talked to the people in the work camps? Are you willing to support how those people from the work camps are treated so you can live a life of luxury you can't get in your home country?

"did you read about the heavy rainfall and thunderstorm last year in Spain..."

Read about it. I was drenched !!!!

And it's been heavy rain, with snow up in the hills as well over the last few days. Winter has arrived a little early methinks...

February can be a real mixed bag, but at the end of the day there is water and wind. That's all you need. I don't think the guys on the boats will be too worried about the temperatures. They just want to go racing !

Is that a boat on the roof of Alinghi's base? Did they put poor SUI-100 up there? What a waste if they did.
