BMW Oracle launches BOR 90 in Valencia

BMW Oracle launched their giant trimaran BOR 90 on Saturday morning, a day after Alinghi's first sail in Valencia. Unfortunately, due to the strict restrictions and controls at the entrance of the commercial port, it is practically impossible for the media to have a look at BOR 90, even from a distance.

As a result, we will have to rely on what Peter Rusch is reporting in the excellent BMW Oracle Blog. So, according to Peter, after the boat was launched in the morning, "gusty winds made stepping the mast a tricky proposition for much of the day. But late in the afternoon, the shore team was able to complete their work. Load testing is scheduled for Sunday."

One wonders if they're hiding something.

Yes - they're hiding the fact that they are repairing the transport damage the wing suffered AND constructing parts of the wing - in Valencia rather than San Diego.

Seems like these one set of rules for the US Team and another set for the Swiss ?

They have tremendous problems with the wing. That's why they wanted another month of preparation. Thank god Brad and Ernesto didn't fall into the trap Ru$$el Coutt$ had for them.

People in the know tell me that in SD they had breakages in the wing EVERY day they sailed.

The countdown has started to the 33rd AC and I would like to encourage Alinghi's Team for their behavour towards Oracle's that had already lost the game before even strarted it ! If the New York's Court decide to disqualifie Alinghi after the match for X reasons, all sailing world will applause.

Dear Alinghi, BOR is out for your blood..... dont sleep comfortably, look behind you and ahead of you. Look at the future as well, these guys want the win, with or without water, preferably without water at this stage. Keep the crew ot of the fight and focus on training and tactics, don't slip up.

@ Jacques - maybe they have realised that a wing is not a sloop rig!

@ 12:07pm - typical BOR desperation to win the cup. Where is the honour in winning it without the water being involved. A victory of that kind would be the end of the oldest sporting trophy in the world.

Let's get both boats racing on 8th Feb - no more court cases and no more delays. The quicker boat will win.

Yes get it done.

BOR and A5 should start with their boats as they are. The best will win. Any further courtaction is of no interest to anybody outside the teams

As far as Im not mistaking all last Ameraca's Cup Winners won with North 3DL Sails(Nevada).
I hereby mean New Zealand and Switzerland with American made Sails. And Also Russel Coutts at a time with Alinghi...

Ironically it were two Swiss guys who Invented the 3DL process that they sold to North...

Don't you guys understand that it was EB that

1) Threw out the interpretive resolution that allowed other teams to use 3DL sail made in the USA during previous ACs that were raced under mutual consent

and

2) that EB chose to have a DoG match and therefore requires that the vessel be constructed in country.

So, if you can't make your sails in your own county, than that is tough luck.

He brought this on himself, now deal with it and stop playing the stupid martyr. Be a man Berti and play by the rules you chose.

"EB chose to have a DoG match"??? Hehehe, that was a good one!
You just forgot to add "because all Larry always wanted was to sail an AC Challenger Series where he could, for once, win the right to be in the AC Final Match"!!!
Please, keep writing in this Blog, you're so funny!
